Here is the almost completed redux on the Specialized Vegas. I made the decision that it needed to have a more exciting second life, hence that bubblegum pink. It came out pretty rad and I can’t wait to get this out in the public. Lets make a statement.
A friend gave me this Specialized Vegas because it was in his way, I said “sure, I take that TANK”. So I did. here is how it sits in all it’s neglected glory:
This is what it looks like after 15 minutes. This bike at this point, does not stand a chance. I plan on giving it the full ‘Old School BMX Project” treatment.

Here is another build I finished up in December and gave to a group of good friends. This group of friends are kids ranging from 8 years old to 17 years old and they share everything.
This is a GT I found at a Boy Scout of America fund raiser. When I took possession it was pretty rough, as you can see here:
I do what I do best, I stripped it down to nothing as you should always do…
Cleaned up the salvageable parts, stripped the paint and got it ready for paint.
I found that auto paint and engine block paint works really well and is durable. I sprayed it with 2 coats the put 3 coats of clear on top. I did have to replace a few parts but nothing too expensive, I hate to buy parts that cost more than the bike is worth.
Here is the reassembled mid school everyday bike built on a shoestring. Most my other build, not so “shoestring”.
On the bench now is this classic of classics, a ’73 Schwinn Stingray getting ready to be given the resto-mod treatment to honor the beginnings of Old School BMX. Way back in the day, before there where BMX specific manufactures and high dollar this and that, we made our own rides and raced them as hard as we could.
What made this era awesome was the creativity of each kid, or willing dad, to make a bitch’n bike. This included scalping parts from motorcycles and junkers, to retro-fitting forks off a 10 speed just to give that chopper race look.

This top bike is just plain cool (and what I am taking my inspiration from). The one down below is pretty much that standard look.

Last Post, I shared with you my latest project on my bench; 1978 Mongoose Motomag. It has been over a week and parts are arriving, in mass. Very exciting here in the shop. Here is a quick look at what has showed up:
I found these MotoMags in fair condition and spent a good 4-6 hours cleaning them up to the original finish. No buffing or polishing. I have also restored them back to a kick-back brake, the previous owner tried to make a ghetto freewheel without knowing exactly how to do that. So, we are back to stock.
Other parts are “rat trap” peddles, fluted seat post. Oury grips and so on.
This is the latest pictures of this bike. I am waiting on the correct cranks or era appropriate cranks. What was cool about the early “Old School” builds is that we ‘Frankensteined’ our bikes together. We used what we had or could modify. That what make this sport so great.
When the rest of the parts arrive I will post this complete bike. (also keep in mind that this bike will also be for sale when I complete this “Rad-Ride”.
